What are Cationic Surfactants?
Cationic surfactants refer to a class of surfactants, which can ionize cations after the molecules are dissolved in water.
Cationic surfactants contain positively charged hydrophilic groups, usually composed of nitrogen-containing organic amine derivatives.
Characteristics:
Cationic surfactants have good surface activity in acidic medium, but it is easy to lose surface activity in alkaline medium. According to chemical structure, they can be divided into amine salts, quaternary ammonium salts and heterocyclic salts.
Applications:
Cationic surfactants are widely used in many fields . They usually have good properties, liking emulsifying, wetting, washing, sterilizating, softening, anti-static and anti-corrosion.
1.Fungicide: Cationic surfactants are often used for disinfection, sterilization and antiseptic because of their strong bactericidal power. For example, quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants are commonly used as fungicides in the pharmaceutical and food industries.
2. Fiber Softener: Cationic surfactants have a positive charge on the surface of a fiber to increase its softness and gloss. They are often used in textile and leather processing treatment.
3. Antistatic Agent: Cationic surfactants are often used in the antistatic treatment of plastics, rubber and fibers because they can reduce the surface resistance of materials and reduce the accumulation of static electricity.
4. Metal Corrosion Inhibitors: Some cationic surfactants can act as metal corrosion inhibitors to prevent the corrosion of metals in specific environments.
5. Cosmetics: Quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants used as emulsifiers and thickeners in cosmetics can provide stable emulsion and good skin feeling.
